The Southeastern Wildlife Exposition is back in Charleston this weekend with events happening February 17-19. SEWE is the nation’s premier celebration of wildlife art and the great outdoors. It’s a showcase of everything there is to love about wildlife and nature through an incredible lineup of events, including fine art exhibits, conservation education, sporting demonstrations and after-hours gatherings. The celebration’s entertainment lineup brings people of all ages to The Lowcountry for a few days of art, wildlife exploration, and so much more. Dogs dive in slow motion during SEWE's dock dog competition in Brittle Bank Park. The events of the weekend will take place across multiple iconic Charleston venues. The Charleston Place Hotel will host the Fine Art Gallery, Brittlebank Park will host live demonstrations and Sporting Village in its outdoor venue, and the Gaillard Center will host live performances and SEWE Marketplace, Francis Marion Square will be home to some of this weekend’s events, amongst many other venues around town! This year features an exciting lineup of events. Folks can purchase single tickets to attend the remaining festivities for both today, Saturday, and tomorrow, Sunday. We’ve gathered a list of a few exciting SEWE events that are still happening at this year’s event. Saturday, February 18Birds of a Feather Ladies Brunch Benefit Buzz out of the Lowcountry and into the hive, to raise your glass for the Birds of a Feather Ladies Brunch Benefit in support of the Bee Cause Project to protect pollinators. Sheep and Duck Herding Demos Watch collies artfully muster sheep and ducks through various obstacles with only a few verbal commands. Bill Coburn, of Windy Knolls Farm, herds ducks and sheep as part of his demonstration using border collies Brittlebank Park Friday, during the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition. National Marine Mammal Foundation Dolphin Doctor Hands-on Workshop Experience NMMF will conduct interactive Dolphin Doctor: On the Front Lines of Marine Mammal Medicine workshops for SEWE participants. This program focuses on marine mammal medicine, science, and technology, and applications to the conservation of marine mammals worldwide. Purina Pro Plan Flying Disc Dog Demonstrations The high-flying Purina® Pro Plan Performance Team is a collection of some of the world’s most athletic canines. Watch the team perform amazing flying disc routines with showings happening throughout at the weekend. Busch Wildlife Sanctuary Show Busch Wildlife Sanctuary will introduce the wonders of the natural ecosystems and give SEWE attendees an up-close look at alligators, bobcats, foxes, birds of prey, snakes and much more. “Meet the Gundogs” Retriever Demonstrations Boykin Spaniel Society presents dogs of various breeds and ages during demonstrations of retrieving skills. Able handlers will be on site to answer questions and educate the public on gundogs. Cocktails & Conversation with Garden and Gun Grab a cocktail and join in on the fun at the Garden & Gun offices in the old Cigar Factory to take part in compelling conversations revolving around wildlife, sporting, culture, and conservation. 2023 Lowcountry Social BBQ, open bar & bluegrass music by the fire. What’s better than that? The Birds of Prey flight demonstrations are always a fan favorite at SEWE in Marion Square in downtown Charleston. Sunday, February 19Forrest Galante: Live Storytelling As an American outdoor adventurer, television personality and wildlife biologist, Forrest Galante will entertain and enlighten SEWE patrons with live presentations. Live Art Series: Pencil It In As part of SEWE’s new live painting series, watch SEWE artists sketch in pencil, scratchboard & graphite. Artists: Ray Gamradt, Cole Johnson, Terry Miller, Nelson Tucker & Ray Brown Orvis Fly Fishing Demonstration Fly fishing casting lessons with Orvis at Brittlebank Park. Try your hand at angling or improve upon your skills with the fly-fishing professionals on-site. Wings Over Water: Film Showing Presented by Ducks Unlimited Wings Over Water, a film co-produced by Ducks Unlimited and narrated by award-winning actor Michael Keaton, will showcase the importance of the Prairie Pothole Region of North America as a breeding and nesting habitat for birds. SEWE Raffles Win brag-worthy prizes with SEWE 2023 raffles.
